A

  • Acristalamiento: Conjunto de vidrios y cámaras que forman el vidrio aislante de una ventana
  • Anodizado: Tratamiento electroquímico del aluminio que crea una capa protectora de óxido
  • Argón: Noble gas used in the insulating glass chamber to improve thermal insulation (67% lower conductivity than air)
  • Apertura oscilobatiente: System that allows the window to be opened in two positions: hinged (like a door) and tilt-and-turn (tilted at the top)

B

  • Bajo emisivo (Low-E): Glass with an invisible metallic layer that reflects infrared heat, improving thermal insulation
  • Butiral de polivinilo (PVB): Transparent plastic sheet used as an intermediate layer in laminated safety glass

C

  • Cámara de aire: Espacio hermético entre los vidrios de un vidrio aislante, relleno de aire o gas
  • Climalit: Saint-Gobain's trademark for insulating glass. It is used colloquially to refer to any double glazing
  • Control solar: Vidrio con capa que reduce la entrada de calor solar al interior
  • Cortina de cristal: Sistema de paneles de vidrio templado plegables sin perfiles verticales
  • CTE: Technical Building Code. Spanish regulatory framework for the quality of buildings

D

  • dB (decibelio): Unit of measurement of acoustic insulation. Every additional 3 dB reduces perceived noise by half
  • Doble acristalamiento: Insulating glass composed of two sheets of glass separated by a hermetic chamber

E

  • Emisividad: Capacity of a material to emit energy in the form of radiation. Low-E glasses have very low emissivity (0.01-0.10)
  • Espaciador: Spacer profile between the panes of an insulating glass unit. Warm edge spacers reduce the thermal bridge
  • Estanqueidad: Capacidad de la ventana para impedir el paso de aire y agua

F

  • Solar factor (g): Fracción de energía solar que atraviesa el vidrio. Valor de 0 a 1
  • Float: Proceso de fabricación del vidrio plano por flotación sobre estaño fundido
  • Foliado: Wood imitation finish or color applied on PVC profiles by means of adhesive sheet

H

  • Herraje: Set of metal parts that allow the opening, closing and locking of the window
  • Hoja: Parte móvil de la ventana que se abre y cierra

J

  • Junta de estanqueidad: Perfil de goma o silicona que sella la unión entre hoja y marco

K

  • Kriptón: Noble gas with very low conductivity, used in high-performance insulating glass (30% better than argon)

L

  • Lacquering: Powder coating finish applied electrostatically and oven cured on aluminum
  • Laminado: Vidrio compuesto por dos o más láminas unidas mediante PVB o EVA. De seguridad
  • Low-E: Ver «Bajo emisivo»

M

  • Marco: Parte fija de la ventana anclada al hueco de la pared
  • Marcado CE: Mandatory European certification that accredits compliance with declared performance
  • Multicámara: Perfil con múltiples cámaras de aire internas que mejoran el aislamiento térmico

P

  • Passivhaus: Estándar de construcción de ultra-bajo consumo energético originario de Alemania
  • Permeabilidad al aire: Cantidad de aire que pasa a través de la ventana cerrada. Clases 1-4 (4=mejor)
  • Puente térmico: Area where the insulation is interrupted, causing heat loss and possible condensation
  • PVB: Ver «Butiral de polivinilo»

R

  • RAL: Sistema estándar de codificación de colores. Ejemplo: RAL 7016 (gris antracita)
  • RPT (Rotura de Puente Térmico): Insulating element of polyamide inserted in aluminum profiles to interrupt heat conduction
  • Rw: Índice de reducción acústica ponderado, expresado en dB

S

  • Selectividad: Relationship between the light transmission and the solar factor of a glass. Greater selectivity = more light with less heat
  • Serigrafiado: Vidrio con motivos impresos mediante tinta cerámica y fijados al horno

T

  • Templado: Heat-treated glass (620°C + rapid cooling) that is 5 times more resistant and fragments into small pieces
  • Transmitancia térmica (U): Amount of heat that passes through an element per m² and degree of difference. In W/m²K
  • Triple glazing: Vidrio aislante con tres láminas de vidrio y dos cámaras. Máximo aislamiento

U

  • Uf: Transmitancia térmica del marco (frame)
  • Ug: Transmitancia térmica del vidrio (glass)
  • Uw: Transmitancia térmica de la ventana completa (window) — el valor más importante

V

  • Valor U: Ver «Transmitancia térmica»
  • Vierteaguas: Inclined piece on the lower outside of the window that deflects rainwater

W

  • Warm edge: Warm edge spacer for insulating glass that reduces the perimeter thermal bridge
